Earth science

/earth/ /sci.ence/

Earth Science is any variety of sciences, such as geology, geography, and geomorphology, that are concerned with the structure, age, and other aspects of the earth.

Earth science is one of the core subjects of any constructive academic curriculum. Through earth sciences, students are able to learn about fundamental truths about the earth we live in, as well as our celestial neighbors. With the knowledge of earth science, scientists are able to understand the fundamental workings of earth's basic functions. Volcanic activities, earthquakes and hurricanes are all planetary functions observed and studied by earth scientists.

Earth sciences are absolutely crucial fields of study. Without the fundamental knowledge of our planet's basic functions, we would be ignorant to how the world really works, leaving us with a faulty, dark-ages type of mindset. For instance, before the basic studies of earth science, the majority of people believed the earth was flat, and that our sky was not a sky at all, but in fact, another ocean. As ridiculous as this sounds to us now, people of that time were merely ignorant to the fundamentals of earth science.

In short, if we deny ourselves the rudimentary, fundamentals of science, we are left with inaccurate, flawed and even absurd ideas in our attempt of explaining what only science truly can.

Emotional disorders

/ /dis.or.der/

Emotional disorder is a broad category which is used commonly in educational settings, to group a range of more specific perceived difficulties of children and adolescents. The most common emotional disorders include Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism, bipolar disorder and anxiety disorder.

Teens, who display characteristics of emotional disorders, are more susceptible to negative behaviors such as, selfishness, rebelliousness, and anger. As adolescence is already a difficult time, teens, who suffer from emotional or psychological disorders, may find navigating through adolescence to be near the impossible. It is for this reason that parents should seek professional therapeutic help if their child is showing symptoms of emotional disorder.

If parents suspect their teen may be suffering from some type of emotional disorder, the services of a residential treatment center will provide their child with adequate therapeutic restoration to their child.

English ( academic course)

English class or language arts is a course or individual class in the study of English language, literature, or composition. Language arts is perhaps the most crucial course a student can learn as the language is a skill we use in our everyday lives.

Language arts teaches every aspect of a student's language, ranging from basic knowledge to advanced. English class is responsible for teaching students the following language fundamentals: reading comprehension skills, writing skills, research skills, grammar, sentence structure and spelling.

English class, like most academic material, is generally neglected by troubled teen boys and girls. Academics, as a whole, is often times disregarded by teens. Troubled teens simply do not view academics as a priority. However, what many teens fail to realize is that, without basic, fundamental language skills, life will be almost impossible to navigate through. Furthermore, it is imperative to seek academic treatment for a troubled teen who has failed or fallen behind, in language arts.

The environment, social context, sociocultural context, or milieu, refers to the immediate physical and social setting in which people live or in which something happens or develops. It includes the culture that the individual was educated or lives in, and the people and institutions with whom they interact. A person's environment is highly influential. Their environment influences everything from the way a person thinks, what he/she likes/dislikes, and what that person does for recreation. This is especially true of adolescents.

Generally speaking, an adolescent's social environment is everything to them. What their peers and other adolescents think of them is an adolescent's main concern. This problematic, inflated importance of their social status in their environment, an adolescent is easily influenced, which can lead to self-destructive behaviors. If it is the cool thing to do, regardless of whether or not it is self-harming, a teen may choose to display negative behaviors. They may do so, in hopes of pleasing other teens within their environment, or to further avoid scrutiny from their environment's social hierarchy.

In short, an adolescent's environment may have a positive, or negative effect on their lives. Because of this, a teen should surround themselves with an environment made up of positive, fruitful and productive peers.

Unlike traditional education, experiential education rarely takes place in a classroom. Instead, teens are able to learn about the real world but experiencing the real world first hand. By participating in experiential learning in settings like, soup kitchens and the great outdoors, teens are able to truly learn and grow through experiencing life, rather than discussing it in a classroom.

The reason for experimental education's success is the comprehensive list of staff supporting the experiential education curriculum. Experiential educators include teachers, camp counselors, corporate team builders, therapists, challenge course practitioners, environmental educators, guides, instructors, coaches, mental health professionals.
