An adolescent is a person living in the transitional time of adolescence. Adolescence is a transitional stage of physical and psychological human development that generally occurs during the period from puberty to legal adulthood. Dealing with the confusion and obstacles that come along with adolescence can prove to be a difficult time for some. Adolescents will sometimes display and participate in negative behavior and activities because of their inability to deal with the transitional phase of adolescence.

Adolescents or teenagers are living in a trying and difficult time that brings new stresses and responsibilities. Some adolescents are not prepared or have a more difficult time than others. For these teens, negative behaviors such as rebelliousness, arrogance, selfishness and entitlement generally become a norm. These types of teens are generally referred to as struggling adolescents.
