A holistic approach is one that relates to or concerned with completely treating the entirety of an issue, rather than with individual parts of that issue. In regards to psychotherapy, a holistic approach is based on Psychosynthesis, a technique that thoroughly addresses physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional aspects of a person as a whole.
The holistic approach to psychotherapy differs from traditional therapy in the methods used in combatting and correcting psychological disorders. While traditional therapy focuses exclusively on behaviors and thoughts that cause issues or disorders, the holistic approach additionally concentrates, on other, external factors. In holistic psychotherapy, attention is also focused on an individual’s relationship with their environment and how it is expressed through their sense of feeling, thinking, and being.
